Canine Good Citizen/Delta Pet Partners Preparatory Classes
What is the CGC?
Started in 1989, The American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. All dogs, including both purebred and mixed breed dogs are welcome to participate in the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) Program. For more information, please visit the CGC website.
What is the Delta Society Pet Partners Program?
The Delta Society Pet Partners program certifies that you have the skills needed to visit safely with your animal in hospitals, nursing homes, classrooms, and other facilities. It not only tests your dog's manners, but you and your dog's ability to cope in stressful situations. For more information about the Pet Partners Program, please visit the Delta Society website.
Prep Class
The American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen and Delta Society Pet Partners programs share some similar test components. This course is intended to help you and your dog train for these particular skills. The first Prep Class Orientation class will review the skills you'll need. This Prep Class Orientation counts as one lesson on your punch card.
This class is designed so that you can take all, or a few, of the classes that you need for certain skills. Use your punch card for the classes that you’d like to take.
Exams and Evaluations
Only the CGC test will be administered at the end of this class and that may require a separate fee. Before you can take the Delta Pet Partners Team Evaluation, you must take a separate instructor-led or home-study course. If you are interested in taking the Delta Society Pet Partners Team Evaluation, please contact Pooch Pawsitive.
